Culture Interlace is a visual and cultural exploration of Albanian traditional textiles, celebrating the artistry, craftsmanship, and stories woven into every garment. This publication examines how these patterns are more than decoration; they are symbols of identity, resilience, and cultural memory, especially during periods of political suppression. Inspired by the patterns seen on Albanian textiles, I have recreated them digitally to bridge the past and the present in my publication.
Through detailed research, recreated digital patterns, and archival-inspired design, Culture Interlace bridges the past and present, showing how traditional Albanian craft continues to inspire and inform contemporary design. This project honours the women artisans whose skill and creativity preserved these cultural expressions, turning handcrafted patterns into a visual language that speaks across generations. It invites viewers to rediscover the beauty of tradition, see the depth behind each motif, and understand how craftsmanship carries both history and identity forward.
The digital patterns are layered over photographs of the original garments, allowing the past and present to exist within the same frame. By placing the reconstructed motifs beneath the fabric, the composition reveals the hidden geometry that structures the textile, making visible the craftsmanship embedded within it.
